9- Software Defined Networks (SDN) and SDN Applications

Software Defined Networks (SDN) is a new technology that has recently been developed for computer networks. Initially used in campus networks, this technology has come to be used in data centers and in mobile networks with Network Virtualization. SDN networks are thought to be part of the 5G networks currently in the standardization process. Google has been using SDN infrastructure among its data centers since 2012; companies such as Facebook, Microsoft, and Verizon, including Google, support the development of OpenFlow - the communication protocol used in SDN. Many companies, such as Cisco, Juniper, and HP, have produced SDN compliant routers. Researchers working on computer networks predict that SDN will be used widely in the next 10-15 years.

We hope that this special session is to bring academicians and researchers working in the field of SDN together and to create a discussion platform, to evaluate the recent work on the topic. The list of topics for this special session include (but not limited to):

  • Software Defined Networks
  • Routing in SDN
  • Applications over SDN (VoIP, video streaming, etc.)
  •  Resource Allocation in SDN
  • Traffic Engineering in SDN
  • SDN based datacenters
  • Security in SDN
  • Software Defined Mobile Networks
  • SDN and Network Virtualization Technologies
